The 3Shape TRIOS Dental Intraoral Scanner: Making an Excellent First Impression

For the past year Yonge Eglinton Dental has been using the 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanner. It makes taking dental impressions quicker, more comfortable and more convenient.  It can also optimize your dental care.

If you’ve ever had any major dental work done, you’ve probably had a dental impression taken. Dental impressions are imprints your teeth and mouth.  They are used in the creation of mouthguards, whitening trays, retainers, dental implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and other treatment products.

Traditional Intraoral Impressions

Traditional techniques involve a thick liquid material dispensed into a U-shaped impression tray that is then placed onto the teeth until the material sets.  This can be uncomfortable for patients with jaw pain and those with heavy gag reflexes. When the tray is removed, it’s sent to a lab for processing. At the lab stone is poured into the impression and a dental cast is produced to make a close replica of the mouth.

The intraoral scanner

Now that we have the 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanner on our side, the formation of dental impressions is much less tedious, unpleasant and time consuming. In fact, a University of Bern School of Dental Medicine analysis found that 100 percent of the relevant study’s patients preferred digital dental impression-taking. And it’s not hard to see why.

Speed and comfort

The 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanner offers a super quick and convenient method of capturing an accurate image. Your teeth can be scanned in a matter of seconds. There’s less time sitting in the dental chair and the process is a lot more comfortable.

Accuracy

Compared with traditional techniques, dental products made from 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanners are completed faster.  The final products tend to have a more accurate fit and require fewer adjustments. As well, the need for remakes – and resultant extra visits – is vastly reduced.

Improved communication

The 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanner lets us show you a 3D impression of your mouth almost immediately. This will give you a much better understanding of the condition of your teeth and the treatment options available.

See your future

Using the TRIOS Smile Design feature, we can incorporate our treatment design into your photo to show you your beautiful new smile within minutes. You can also view dynamic treatment proposals on your mobile device, so you can share and discuss treatment options with family and friends.

Patient-specific motion

A series of different bite positions can be recorded so that the laboratory can provide optimal aesthetics and fit.

We are excited to show you what we can do with the 3Shape TRIOS dental intraoral scanner! Come in and find out soon!
