Spring into Fitness at Yonge and Eglinton

You’ve probably seen them on your morning commute, emerging from their homes after a long hibernation, strapping on helmets, FitBits, and running shoes and taking to the streets and parks. Joggers. Cyclists. Athletes. And if you’re like us, you’ve heard the very same song that drew them out. Spring is here, and any weather-based excuse for staying inactive is quickly going out the window. Embrace it! Whether you’re a veteran marathoner or cycling novice, there are plenty of places around Yonge and Eglinton to get you geared up and going.

Love Your Yonge and Eglinton Green Spaces

We’ve been from High Park to the Danforth, and we have to say that Eglinton Park is one of the best pieces of green space in town. We’re exceptionally lucky in this neighbourhood to have a park that offers such a diversity of activities for young and old alike. If you aren’t spending time there this spring and summer, you just aren’t getting the most out of this awesome area.

Established in 1926 from the land used for a 19th century brickyard, Eglinton Park has served generations of Eglintoners by providing a safe, lush space for all manner of athletics. Whether your game is baseball, basketball or tennis, the facilities are among some of the best around. The International Cricket Council has even held a few test matches there.

Gear Up and Get Out

We’re lucky to have plenty of great businesses that cater to the active life. You can pick up some high-performance (and oh-so-flattering) yoga and running outfits at Lululemon, just a few blocks north of Eglinton at 2558 Yonge Street.

For racquets, bats, an gloves, go online Sport Check as location at 2529 Yonge Street has moved. Their staff is always super friendly, and their knowledge of all things active is astounding. But when it comes to soccer, you’ll want to go the specialists at L&M Taylor Soccer at 2046 Yonge Street. This Mecca for footie fans has top-tier gear and shoes, along with high quality jerseys for just about every team out there.

Cyclists will want to bike over to the Sporting Life at 2454 Yonge Street, where the team is renowned for their knowledge, passion and friendliness.

Protect your Grill

You know what goes great with a fit bod? A beautiful smile. So invest in a mouth guard before you hit the court, diamond, pitch or trail. Accidents happen, and a little piece of plastic can end up saving you a great deal of grief. Not sure what kind of mouthguard you need? Schedule an appointment and we’ll help you out.

Until next time, we’ll see you at the park.
