This area is full of young couples with young children. And while there’s tons to do around here with the family, sometimes you have to leave the kids at home and do something for yourself. If you can find babysitting, here are some options for you.
See a movie
If Hollywood blockbusters are your thing, the Silver City at Yonge Eglinton Centre is where you want to be. But if you’re more of an art house/indie film kind of person, head to Canada Square on the southwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton. The auditoriums aren’t as comfortable as they are at Silver City, but it’s worth it to see a movie you can’t find anywhere else.
Take in some comedy
Absolute Comedy at 2335 Yonge Street (it used to be Yuk Yuk’s) has had locals laughing for decades. We highly recommend heading there on Wednesday nights for Pro/Am shows to see the up-and-comers. Some will miss, some will hit, but the hits hit big.
Dance the night away
Alleycats is one of the area’s hidden gems and one of the city’s best jazz bars. Grab a booth and a few cocktails, then hit the floor and rip it up with some of the best jazz acts Toronto has to offer.
Go for a walk
You can window shop up and down Yonge Street, then stop for a hot drink at one of the area’s many coffee shops (Aroma Espresso Bar at 2300 Yonge Street, De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters at 2489 Yonge Street, Second Cup at 40 Eglinton Avenue East and Starbucks right across at 39 Eglinton Avenue East). Alternatively, walk east to Sherwood Park and take a quiet stroll through one of North Toronto’s nicest green spaces.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure you look your very best. That starts with a bright smile, so book a teeth-whitening appointment a few days before so your mouth matches your mood.
