Absolute Comedy

No one in the world works harder than our friends in the comedy business. Making someone laugh is the toughest job on the planet, but getting that smile and that involuntary “Ha!” is the best.

As much as we here try to keep things light and occasionally funny, we can’t hold a candle to the comedians who grace the stage at Absolute Comedy at 2335 Yonge Street.

Obviously, Fridays and Saturdays are best nights to go, but keep Wednesday visits in mind for the Pro/Am feature, where local amateurs get their first shot in front of a live crowd. They’re not all going to kill it, but on the off-chance you get to see a future star, you can say you saw them when…

Dinner before the comedy show?

The shows only get going around 8:30 so there’s plenty of time beforehand for a bite — and the area has no shortage of options. Coming with a group? The Pickle Barrel across the road in the Yonge Eglinton Centre’s perfect. Plenty of large tables and a huge menu make it easy to manage everyone’s tastes. There are a few pubs in the area (most notably the Duke of Kent) for pints and plates. And if you want something more refined, Grazie, North 44˚ are here as well.

Now, about those dentist jokes…

Our profession has been the subject of many a stand-up routine. Fortunately, we’re a light bunch who can laugh at ourselves. So if you hear a good one, feel free to share it with us at your next appointment.
