Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, teeth whitening is a very safe when the dental bleaching is supervised. It involves a peroxide-based solution and/or a special light to remove stains and discoloration. Whitening in our office takes about an hour or you can choose from at-home systems that show results after 3 days.
Is bonding different from a veneer?
Yes. Cosmetic bonding uses a tooth colored composite material that can alter (or fix) the shape and color of a tooth. Porcelain veneers are applied on the outside of a tooth where you see them. Veneers are stronger than bonding, can be coloured to exactly match your teeth, and never discolour.
Will my insurance cover cosmetic services?
It depends on your policy and the nature of the procedure. Because of our long-term experience with cosmetic dentistry, the Yonge Eglinton Dental team is able to interpret insurance descriptions and help complete the form so that you receive the maximum coverage you are entitled to.
Is cosmetic dentistry all about appearances?
No. There are many restorative benefits to cosmetic dentistry. Correcting a misaligned bite, for example, can stop teeth grinding that wears away the enamel. If you can fix crowded teeth, you significantly reduce the chances for decay.
I saw someone get a whole new smile on a TV show overnight. Is this possible?
TV shows can be misleading. However, today’s cosmetic procedures are remarkably fast compared to even 10 years ago. Once we’ve designed your new smile, the manufacture and application of veneers or crowns can happen within a couple of weeks.
Am I vain to want a cosmetic procedure?
Absolutely not. Study after study tells us that an attractive smile is one of our most important features. People who smile not only feel better about themselves, but they are often happier and healthier.
