Pick of the Pies – Pizza Pies that is

Without teeth, you wouldn’t be able to eat pizza. There you have it: a more effective pitch for dental care than any flossing PSA or gum disease slide show.

If a healthy smile can’t convince you to brush three times a day, then the prospect of pureeing your pepperoni might.

We know that this threat is a good one because — and this is a fact — North Americans consume about 100 acres of pizza each year. That’s 350 slices per second. Over the course of a year, the average person eats nearly 50 slices themselves.

So yeah, we could talk about pizza all day. This is largely due to the fact that we’re lucky to have some of the best pizza joints in the city just a stone’s throw from the office, right here at Yonge and Eglinton. So without further ado, here are a few of our faves, in no particular order:

Classico Louie’s Pizza

Simple, no-fuss pies with a whole lot of flavour. This is the perfect place for take-out or delivery on movie nights and game days. For those times when the fam just can’t agree, they offer excellent sandwiches, wings and lasagna to boot. If there’s nothing your kids want here, then they can fend for themselves, frankly. 2549 Yonge Street.

Viva Napoli

Located at 679 Mount Pleasant Road, this authentic Neapolitan-style pizzeria serves up fresh ingredients and a whole lot of passion for their craft. Keep it simple: the classic Margherita is a must-try. Oh, and the chef is a Neapolitan ex-pat himself, so be sure to brush up on your Italian compliments to earn molto brownie points from the kitchen.

Sip Wine Bar

Suave and intimate, this dusky spot is a great choice for when Pizza Pizza isn’t going to cut it on your next date. Their wine and cocktails list is fantastic and the wait-staff know their stuff. The pizzas? Perfection. For parties, see if you can book the beautiful downstairs Cantina, which boasts some truly remarkable carved wooden tables. Pro tip: try the Amalfi pizza bianche. Find Sip at 2 Broadway Avenue.

Magic Oven

A Toronto favourite for good reason. Fresh, ethically sourced ingredients and plenty of options for hungry customers with dietary restrictions make Magic Oven at 302 Eglinton Ave West a go-to for a quick pie that’s several cuts above the average fast-food fare. Try the Euphoria Magic pizza. Believe it or not, it actually lives up to its name. These tips are on us. Because you know what? We love our patients’ mouths. When their mouths are happy, we’re happy. And nothing makes a mouth happier than a solid slice of pizza. Think you know a pizzeria that should be on our list? Let us know at your next appointment .
