We’re big Blue Jays fans here. Like, huge. And like everyone else in Toronto, we’ve waited more than two decades for a pennant race. We forgot what it was like to be thinking about the team almost every waking moment; to be replaying games in our heads; and to be staying up well past our bedtimes to watch the team on the west coast because every game matters that much.
If you’re like us, you hate to miss a game. But it can be tricky to snag seats at the stadium now that the rest of the city has hopped on the bandwagon. For us, it’s doubly hard because of our work schedules. So when we have time to duck out for a drink, some food and some baseball, here’s where we go:
The Right Wing
If wings are your thing, you can’t go wrong with The Right Wing at 2497 Yonge, just south of Keewatin. With plenty of screens, daily deals and a bevy of beverages, it’s a family friendly spot to unwind and watch a ballgame. Their wing selection is top-notch, offering dozens of flavours from sweet and dry to hot and saucy.
Philthy McNasty’s [CLOSED]
Don’t let the name throw you — this place is a long-time destination for Jays fans in the neighbourhood, and boasts a totally casual, laid-back atmosphere with two massive TVs. Be sure to try their Big Man Cheeseburger! Check it out at 130 Eglinton Avenue East.
The Rose and Crown
An iconic landmark at 2335 Yonge Street, this pub has been hosting Jays Nation since 1979. The friendly staff are huge fans, and they’ve got enough screens to keep you on top of the action, no matter where you sit. After the game, be sure to stick around for live music. It’s a regular occurrence at the Rose.
The Fox
You won’t see cricket up on the screens at this British-style pub — they’re just as big Jays fans as we are. Part of the stalwart Firken group of public houses, the family friendly spot located at 51 Eglinton Avenue East often fills up with folks watching the game after work, so be sure to get there early. We recommend trying the Fish and Chips — it goes great with a playoff game.
